Alabama embraced the spirits with its vibrant Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration! Traditionally observed on November 1-2 in Mexico and by those of Mexican heritage, this festive holiday honors loved ones who have passed.
The event honors the lives of our ancestors and loved ones who came before us, drawing from Día de los Muertos traditions. Visitors were invited to add the names of their deceased loved ones to a memorial roll call, which was read aloud. The festival also provides a dedicated space for setting up ofrendas – traditional altars adorned with pictures, personal mementos, and cherished belongings that once belonged to those who have passed. According to tradition, these familiar items guide the spirits of the dead back to earth on this special night.
