Master P to Norwood Elementary: Dream Big, Work Hard

Percy “Master P” Miller made a surprise stop at Norwood Elementary School this week, rolling in with his animated mascot sidekick, Captain Ace, ahead of his performance at the BJCC.

The visit turned into an official moment: Mayor Randall Woodfin and Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Dr. Mark Sullivan presented the music mogul with a proclamation honoring his dedication to youth empowerment and literacy.

But Miller didn’t just pose for photos. He sat with the students and broke success down in terms they could hold onto.

On consistency, he used a McDonald’s analogy — long-term success doesn’t come from quick wins, it comes from showing up and doing the work the same reliable way, every single day.

On how you treat people, he told students to value their classmates now, because the kid sitting next to them could grow up to be a banker, a mayor, or a leader who remembers exactly how they were treated.

And on where you come from, he kept it personal — growing up in New Orleans’ Calliope Projects taught him that your starting point doesn’t put a ceiling on where you can go.

What’s one lesson from your childhood that still guides how you move today?
