MCR: Fun, Family, Friends, and Nature at Rail Road Park

2Railroad Park is a great place to enjoy beautiful weather by yourself, with family or friends. The scenery is painted with colorful, neat, and well-kept landscaping dressed with flowers, lakes, a waterfall, and ponds for fish and ducks to enjoy as well. At any given point and time you can expect to see children riding bikes, couples taking a stroll, people sitting on the bench, skaters enjoying the skate bowls, people walking their dogs on a leash, families or groups of friends sitting in the middle of the grass on a blanket enjoying the sun, people taking candid shots for special events, or an exercise class being held under the pavilion.

4I have four little ones ages 5,3, 2, and 8 months and when I want to go outdoor s and take my kids on a fun, safe, and inexpensive adventure I head to rail road park. This allows them to have some fun playing outside while enjoying nature and it gives this momma the opportunity to burn some calories and stay healthy as well. One reason I love this park is because I feel safe because of the presence of Birmingham Police as well as the park rangers. My second reason is because I like the environment. Most of the people are out enjoying the amenities of the park, reading a book, having a picnic, exercising on the outdoor gym equipment or participating in an event that is being held. At any point and time you may also hear the sound of the ice cream truck passing by with yummy treats, see a food vendor truck ready to serve or witness a concert or cultural event going on. The park has two play areas for kids to enjoy and many walking trails that allow you to mix up your routine.

If you plain on heading out to rail road park to enjoy a few hours or the whole day with your kids, friends or family like I do. I recommend that you use this DO NOT FORGET LIST so you can maximize your enjoyment:

  3. Water and snacks
  4. Bubbles
  5. Balls (football, soccer balls, kick balls)
  6. Frisbee
  7. Kites
  8. Skate board
  9. Jump Rope
  10. Wipes/Diapers/Small trash bag
  11. Hand Sanitizer
  12. Hats, Sunglasses, SunScreen
  13. Fit Bit, Pedometer
  14. Scooter
  15. Friendly well trained pet on leash and doggy bags for poop

15.Blankets/Large Towels

  1. First Aid Kit
  2. Bug Repellant
  3. Lawn Chair
