THIRD ANNUAL MAGIC CITY DIAMOND CLASSIC

Alabama A&M vs. Alabama State Baseball Classic

The 3rd Annual Magic City Diamond Classic is well underway with coaches and players preparing for this age old match up featuring Alabama A & M vs. Alabama State. At the press conference held on March 20th at Regions field, which is the first time this match up will be played at this stadium, Mayor William Bell Sr.  expresses his excitement about Birmingham hosting this game, in hopes that we will continue the efforts in being “The city that elevates college athletics to a higher degree”; and shine light on the athletic talent and quality that both schools represent as they compete to win the championship in their conference.

DSC00517Alabama States Head Coach Jose’ Vasquez, accompanied with his starting short stop Eric White and his starting right fielder Hunter Phillips, states that he is excited because he has never been able to attend the “Magic City Classic” due to that being one of the biggest recruiting events in Florida for baseball. He looks forward to continuing this game in Birmingham and being a part of building this legacy for many years.

Alabama A & M Head Coach Mitch Hill accompanied with his starting third baseman Cornelius Woods and Brandon MarsoneDSC00529.JPGk knows that his team has to compete, have a better outing and stay positive to get the edge on Alabama State. He knows he has a young team with a great chemistry. “In baseball once you make mistakes it’s how you handle the mistakes and how you react.” Says Coach Hill. After the tough losses they have faced on their home field he simply states “it’s time to respond.” He feels good about the direction they are going in and they are looking to take the series at their home field.

Coach Vasquez doesn’t believe in making excuses. He recognizes that they have had a pretty strong schedule and that they have a long way to go but as he states “It’s not over yet.” His focus is to win conference games. Their record for conference games is currently 4 – 2.

Coach Hill has future plans to recruit in Birmingham. He has his eyes on some talent from the Oak Mountain area and has a great relationship with some inner city coaches. He has a commit out of the Decatur area which is Ladarius Woods’s, brother to third baseman Cornelius Woods, as well as commits from the Huntsville area.

This NCAA College baseball event will be held on April 7th, 2017 at 5:30p.m. Tickets can be purchase at http://tinyurl.com/mcdc2017
